how do calculate for cross stitch ?
i am doing Fairy Dreams cross stitch and need to know how to figure out how much material to use if i do 2 over 2 on even weave is there a formula to use because i have lots of old patterns i would love to work on and need to know how much material i need help please
Divide the stitch count by the fabric count you want to use. Example: the stitch count is 100 x 200 and you want to use a 32 ct evenweave over 2. 32 over 2 is the same as 16 ct (32/2 = 16). So now you divide 100 by 16 = 6.25 inches and 200/16 = 12.5 inches. So now your DESIGN size is 6.25 x 12.5 inches. You should always allow a 3 inch margin on all sides (for framing and in case you don’t center your design perfectly). In this example you will add 6 inches to the length and width of the design, which is 6.25 + 6 = 12.25 inches and 12.5 + 6 = 18.5 inches. You want to have a piece of fabric no smaller than 12.25 x 18.5 inches. Make sense?
